Red is for happy

I am speaking only of the differences, if I were to speak of similiarities I might as well be talking about Topeka. Chinese like red, I mean they really like red, they really, really like red. Chinese have a clear sense of what color is appropriate for what occasion. Red is for happy and Singaporeans like to be happy. So, chinese like red. Gold is for very with happy overtones. exuberant. So a red chengsam with gold dragon embroidary is effusively happy and wise (dragon). Each symbol in the chinese zodiac has it’s own personna the dragon is wise and lucky. The girl to the left is projecting a gothic sex personna. a dominatrix. (white is the european black) .Consider the above, it is a fashion show, nothing else really works. To an occidental the show may seem redundant, to say the least. Not at all to a Chinese. They see past the red and gold, it’s a fashion show, what else could it be? The dresses are quite distinct to them, they are looking at the patterns. In addition the oriental sees colors different than occidentals. Hmm! When a chinese lady puts on her high heel sneakers to boogie down, It’s almost always red. Sometimes yellow (saucy), rarely blue (mysterious) or black with gold trim (free spirit, usually hookers). White is totally inappropriate with gold. white is worn to a funeral, black to a wedding. so a white dress with trim would be like wearing an evening gown to a funeral. A chengsam is basically a dress with a slit down the side usually with a high collar and usually red. There doesn’t really seem to be any standard except for being red of course. They can be almost touching the ground to where if they bend over you’ll be looking where the sun don’t shine. Check out the tatoo on the gal on the right. wow! What really makes the difference is the material, gorgeous silk patterned, embroidered, brocaded and other women’s secret words a man dare not utter.

The way they dress affects their mood, or their mood effects the way they dress. (same everywhere) So you can tell a lot about the personna of a person by just observing the attire in a way not as ridgid as western culture. In a business environment they will typically dress like a westerner, but for casual wear they wear the samfoo. (shirt pants) basically pajamas. I was kind of shocked when I first got there to see all the women running around in pajamas. Men wear samfoos in the house. This is pretty stuff, check out links. This shows a batik shirt, stamped. (repetitive pattern. Singapore men normally dress exactly as they do in the states for business. For leisure they wear Batik. The women normally wear samfoo, literally blouse pants. It’s really just a loose fitting pair of pajamas Here’s a link to a samfu site. I may have understated them when I called them pajamas. When they put their high heels on they are stunning wearing textured silk choengsom, a dress with a slit down the side. It doesn’t really work for europeans the body build is wrong or something.

There’s also the safari suit, very popular with ex-pats. Basically a leisure suit, sometimes with cargo pockets. Usually Khaki, I liked gaberdine of the type at the left.

Then there’s batik, a process of selective dying using parafin to protect the areas. The cheaper ones use a wooden stamp, the expensive ones are hand made. I couldn’t find any good images. This stuff is oners, if you want a batik shirt, you go to a tailer and have it made. Batik

There are what are called buskars, street performers. They’ll just set up instruments and start dancing. This is in bugis Street. A Chio Bu is a pretty girl. Damn, I miss these people. S’pore is a big gender transformation place. the ladyboys are male, as are the shemales, kinda. They are different, as I’m told. A full movie of Bugis St is here at the bottom of the page. BugisSt The shemale link shows one peeing in the mens room. I must admit I was caught a little from behind the first time I saw it. WTF?

Do not be confused by the grim look on the people, they don’t have the same body language. Smiling is considered aggressive, like snarling. So if they’re really happy they’ll look grim. the one’s smiling are from out of town.
